Veneers or some other treatment—you keep going back and forth between your options and can’t decide whether you should get veneers. Sure, they look great, but are they really worth the investment? To make this decision, you need all the information you can get—here are some facts about veneers you may not know that can help you choose the treatment that’s right for your smile!
Veneers Are Stain Resistant.
The ceramic material used to make veneers is pretty amazing. Not only does it look just like natural teeth, but it also resists stains much better than enamel!
You Can Cover One or All of Your Teeth.
Veneer treatment is customized to your unique needs and goals. If you have only one tooth with flaws, it is possible to get just one veneer. Or, if multiple teeth need to be covered, you can get as many veneers as you want. When you meet with your cosmetic dentist to discuss your treatment options, be clear about what you envision for your smile and which tooth or teeth you would like to address.
Veneers Usually Take Two Appointments.
Unlike teeth whitening or cosmetic bonding, which can be completed in just one appointment, getting veneers requires at least two. The first visit is for “preparation,” when the teeth you are treating are slightly reduced and impressions are taken of your teeth. The second visit occurs a few weeks later when your custom veneers are finished and bonded onto your teeth.
Veneers Involve Making a Permanent Change to Your Teeth.
In order to have enough room for the veneer, a tiny portion of tooth enamel is removed from the front of the treated tooth. This is a permanent alteration, which is why you and your dentist need to be certain about this treatment plan before getting started.
Veneers Can Last Up to 20 Years.
When they are properly maintained, veneers can go for decades before needing replacement. Fortunately, caring for veneers is exactly the same as caring for regular teeth. To keep your veneers in excellent shape, at minimum, you must brush and floss every day and go to your hygiene appointments with the dentist every six months. However, if you really want them to look their best for as long as possible, you should limit having staining foods and drinks like coffee, red wine, tomato sauce, soy sauce, and the like.
Ultimately, veneers are a smart investment if you want a long-term solution to your flawed teeth. Understanding the process and benefits of this treatment can give you confidence to move forward and achieve the smile you’ve always wanted!
